News Corp. (NWS, $24.01) to buy consumer arm of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Co.(HMHC, $5.98)

Media company News Corp. is reportedly nearing an agreement to acquire the consumer division of educational publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Co.

A Wall Street Journal report ,citing people familiar with the matter, mentioned that the deal could be announced as early as Monday. The agreement would add a portfolio of novels from authors such as George Orwell, Philip Roth and J.R.R. Tolkien to News Corp’s HarperCollins Publishers division.

News Corp, in addition to HarperCollins, owns Wall Street Journal publisher Dow Jones & Co. and news organizations in the U.K. and Australia, among other assets. The company is looking to expand in books, digital real estate, and the Dow Jones unit, a person familiar with the matter said (according to the WSJ report).
