PTIR is an actively managed, single-stock leveraged exchange-traded fund that aims to deliver 200% of the daily percentage change in Palantir Technologies stock. The fund relies mainly on total-return swaps with several counterparties, along with some options and direct holdings in the underlying shares, with excess cash parked in U.S. Treasuries and money-market instruments.
Exposure stays tightly concentrated. Instead of spreading across many names, PTIR keeps most of its positions in Palantir-related swaps, Treasuries, and cash, resulting in essentially 100% technology-sector weight through one company. The net expense ratio sits at 1.04%, and the fund is non-diversified with assets under management in the hundreds of millions. Daily resets make it suitable mainly for short-term tactical moves, and longer holding periods can produce noticeable compounding effects and volatility decay.
Over the past 30 days PTIR declined about 17%, moving from roughly $21.55 to around $17.92. The path was uneven, with the fund climbing toward a mid-October high above $26 before reversing sharply when AI-related shares faced pressure and Palantir's earnings prompted a "sell the news" reaction.
The three-month view tells a different story. Starting near $16.72 in early August, PTIR still showed a gain of roughly 7% as November began. The recent 30-day slide erased much, though not all, of the earlier summer advance. The pattern of a strong two-month rally followed by a quick correction highlights the trend-driven, high-volatility nature of the fund rather than any steady grind.
Two main developments explain most of the drop. First, a broad rotation away from AI and software names began in mid-to-late October as investors questioned future AI infrastructure funding and the sustainability of high valuations. Software stocks lost hundreds of billions in market value in a short span, and institutional investors reportedly trimmed concentrated AI holdings. Palantir, trading at a premium multiple as a leading AI software name, felt the full effect of this shift.
Second, Palantir's third-quarter results, released in early November, did not stop the decline despite beating estimates on the surface. Revenue jumped 96% year over year to about $2.3 billion, adjusted EPS came in ahead of consensus, and management raised full-year guidance. U.S. commercial revenue also surpassed U.S. government revenue for the first time. Still, investors focused on slower leading indicators: total contract value grew only about 6% year over year versus 49% in the prior quarter, U.S. commercial bookings growth slowed markedly, and remaining performance obligations stayed roughly flat sequentially. With shares at elevated multiples, the bookings slowdown left little room for disappointment, and the stock fell even after the strong headline numbers. PTIR's 2x daily leverage magnified each negative session.
The trailing-quarter gain of about 7% came almost entirely from August and September, when Palantir rose on accelerating growth, an improved outlook, a sizable U.S. Army software contract, and momentum in its AI Platform. Strong second-quarter results reported in early August, showing 93% revenue growth and triple-digit U.S. commercial expansion, lifted the underlying stock, and the leveraged PTIR amplified those gains.
October then reversed much of that progress as the AI trade rotated, valuation concerns returned, and defensive positioning increased. The net result is a quarter that appears modestly positive on paper yet contained extreme two-way volatility, illustrating how quickly single-stock leveraged ETFs can give back prior advances.
Because PTIR tracks Palantir almost exclusively, its path depends on whether the company can reaccelerate contract bookings and turn shorter "sovereign AI" deals into larger, longer-term agreements. Investors will also follow the broader AI spending cycle, interest-rate and inflation trends, and whether high-multiple software valuations continue to find support in the current macro environment.
Key risks include further rotation out of AI names, any sustained slowdown in bookings or remaining performance obligations, and the decay that daily-reset leverage can produce in choppy markets. On the positive side, a rebound in commercial contract value or continued revenue guidance upside could help stabilize sentiment. No single element will decide the outcome, but the interplay of Palantir's growth trajectory, its valuation, and overall AI-sector appetite will remain the main influences on PTIR performance ahead.
