IQVIA Holdings is a leading global provider of clinical research services, commercial insights, and healthcare intelligence to the life sciences industry. Its quarterly results serve as a useful barometer of pharmaceutical R&D spending and outsourcing demand. The company had beaten consensus estimates in each of the prior four quarters, backed by improving biotech funding and stronger RFP activity. This third-quarter update therefore provides insight not only into IQVIA's own path but also into the broader health of the life sciences outsourcing market.
For the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, IQV reported revenue of $4,428 million, an increase of 8.0% on a reported basis and 8.6% at constant currency, compared with $4,100 million a year earlier. The result exceeded the consensus estimate of approximately $4.37 billion. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
GAAP net income was $350 million, with GAAP diluted EPS of $2.10. On an adjusted basis, net income was $557 million and Adjusted Diluted EPS was $3.34, up 11.3% year-over-year and above the consensus estimate of roughly $3.28. Adjusted EBITDA reached $1,032 million, up 8.7%.
Both operating segments contributed to growth. Commercial Solutions revenue rose 6.9% to $1,789 million, while Research & Development Solutions revenue grew 8.7% to $2,639 million. R&D Solutions net new bookings of $3.2 billion climbed 15% year-over-year, representing a 1.2x book-to-bill ratio. The company also completed a review of inactive trials that reduced contracted backlog by approximately $2.1 billion, leaving R&D Solutions contracted backlog at $32.6 billion. Management expects about $9.4 billion of that backlog to convert to revenue over the next twelve months, up 10% year-over-year.
Despite results that beat consensus estimates on revenue and adjusted EPS, IQV shares traded modestly lower following the announcement. The stock had already climbed to the upper end of its 52-week range in the weeks before the report, and several analysts had raised price targets ahead of earnings. Management's commentary was upbeat, with Chief Executive Officer Ari Bousbib citing favorable demand indicators across biotech funding, RFP flow, clinical trial starts, and FDA approvals. Investor attention quickly moved to the raised full-year guidance and the strength of forward bookings.
IQV raised its full-year 2026 guidance, now expecting revenue between $17,350 million and $17,500 million, Adjusted EBITDA between $4,025 million and $4,055 million, and Adjusted Diluted EPS between $12.90 and $13.00. The updated revenue outlook anticipates roughly 250 basis points of contribution from acquisitions expected to close by year-end, along with a modest foreign-exchange tailwind.
Bookings and the book-to-bill ratio remain the clearest leading indicators of future revenue, and sustained growth above 1.0x would reinforce the demand recovery. The company's AI investments are another area of focus, with management reporting more than 400 AI agents deployed to date. Margin trends and the pace of pass-through revenue will also matter for Adjusted EBITDA expansion. Finally, IQVIA plans to host an Investor Day on December 1, 2026, where it is expected to provide a framework for 2027.
