USANA Health Sciences is navigating a strategic shift from its traditional direct-selling nutrition model toward an omnichannel health and wellness platform across three segments: Core Nutritional, the children’s vitamin brand Hiya, and Rise Wellness. This third-quarter update provides a useful checkpoint on whether that transition is building momentum. Recent periods have featured declining active customers, softer sales trends, and margin pressure tied to investments in a revised Brand Partner compensation plan. With $179 million in cash and no debt on the balance sheet, the focus remains on whether increased spending on customer acquisition and product development can restore revenue growth without further compressing margins.
For the fiscal third quarter ended October 3, 2026, USANA posted net sales of $206 million, a 4% decline from $214 million in the year-ago period and below the roughly $217 million that analysts had projected. The company recorded a net loss attributable to USANA of $5.6 million, narrower than the $6.5 million loss from the prior-year quarter. Diluted EPS showed a loss of $0.30 versus a loss of $0.36 a year earlier.
On an adjusted basis, diluted EPS came in at a loss of $0.11 compared with a loss of $0.15 in the same quarter last year, though this still missed consensus forecasts that had pointed to a small profit. Adjusted EBITDA attributable to USANA totaled $12.1 million, down from $13.8 million a year ago and below the approximately $12.8 million that analysts had anticipated. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
Management lowered its full-year 2026 outlook, now expecting consolidated net sales approaching $900 million and adjusted EBITDA of $77 million, down from prior targets of $910 million in sales and $80.5 million in adjusted EBITDA.
The market reaction was clearly negative. Shares declined roughly 14.9% to around $12.65 in the immediate aftermath of the release, according to market data, as investors focused on the revenue miss and the reduced full-year outlook rather than the sequential gains at Hiya. The downward revision to adjusted EBITDA guidance reinforced concerns that near-term profitability pressures are likely to linger.
Investor sentiment had already been measured heading into the report after multiple quarters of shrinking active customers and margin compression. The post-earnings decline suggests that many viewed the results as confirmation that the transformation is progressing more slowly and at a higher cost than previously expected, even as management highlighted improving operating margins in the Core Nutritional segment and better traction at Hiya.
Looking ahead, attention will center on whether Hiya’s momentum can be maintained. The brand added roughly 29,500 net active monthly subscribers during the quarter and returned to year-over-year sales growth, supported by higher marketing spend and expanded distribution through retailers such as Target and Amazon. Because Hiya functions primarily as a subscription business, these new subscribers should contribute to revenue in upcoming periods.
Rebuilding the Core Nutritional active customer base remains the top priority and the largest potential growth driver. Management is refining its Brand Partner incentive plan to place greater emphasis on customer growth and plans to launch new products starting in 2027. Early indicators, including a 3% sequential increase in Southeast Asia Pacific active customers, suggest the approach can deliver results where execution is strong, though the overall customer base continues to contract.
The balance sheet continues to offer flexibility. With $179 million in cash, zero debt, and $36 million in year-to-date free cash flow, USANA can sustain investment in its omnichannel strategy. That said, the lowered guidance shows these investments will continue to weigh on near-term profitability, making the pace of subscriber and customer recovery the key metric to watch in coming quarters.
