KODK, the Rochester, New York-based imaging, printing, and advanced-materials company formerly known as Eastman Kodak, saw its shares slide sharply on Tuesday. The stock traded down 7.04% to $8.06, compared with a prior-session close of $8.67. The move extends selling that began immediately after the company reported third-quarter 2026 results late Monday, when shares initially dropped more than 6% in after-hours trading. Markets pointed squarely at a disappointing revenue print and renewed softness in Kodak's legacy Print business as the immediate trigger for the decline.
The sell-off traces back to Kodak's third-quarter report, which delivered a mixed picture. The company posted GAAP earnings of $0.18 per share, beating the $0.16 consensus, and swung from a loss of $0.08 per share a year earlier. However, revenue of $276 million rose only 2.6% year over year and fell roughly 6% short of the $294 million consensus. After 18% revenue growth in the second quarter, the sharp top-line deceleration unsettled investors who had been looking for confirmation that Kodak's growth story was accelerating.
Adding to the unease, management reiterated that it provides no formal quantitative guidance, and the company took no questions on its earnings call. That left shareholders without a clear framework for assessing whether the Print slowdown is cyclical or structural.
The clearest source of pressure came from the Print division, which had been a surprise contributor earlier in the year. Print revenue declined 7% to $165 million from $177 million a year ago, a sharp reversal from growth of 10% in the second quarter. Segment operational EBITDA fell to just $1 million from $8 million. Management attributed the decline to higher raw-material costs and availability, digital substitution, competitive pricing pressure, and what it described as an "uneven playing field" in Europe.
Because Print still represents the company's largest revenue base, its weakness more than offset gains elsewhere, reinforcing concerns that Kodak remains dependent on a legacy business facing structural headwinds.
The Advanced Materials & Chemicals segment continued to be Kodak's primary growth engine. AM&C revenue rose 21% to $99 million, and the unit now accounts for about 36% of total sales and more than half of operational EBITDA. Even so, growth cooled from roughly 40% in the second quarter, and revenue slipped sequentially from $105 million. Investors have increasingly concentrated their focus on AM&C — including pharmaceutical and battery-coating initiatives — as the forward catalyst for the company, which means any hint of deceleration there tends to amplify the stock's reaction.
Trading activity reflected the earnings-driven move. On Monday, when the results were released after the close, more than 1.8 million shares changed hands, well above the stock's typical average daily volume. The decline occurred independently of any notable broad-market or sector sell-off, underscoring that the move was company-specific rather than a function of index weakness.
Technically, the slide pushed KODK deeper below its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, both of which sit near the $9.30 level. The stock remains well above its 52-week low of $5.78 but far below its 52-week high of $14.87, leaving it in the lower half of its annual trading range.
Looking ahead, the focus will remain on whether AM&C can sustain its momentum and whether Print stabilizes. Key variables include commodity costs — particularly silver and aluminum, which have driven a year-to-date inventory build — as well as progress in pharmaceutical certification and battery electrode coating capacity. The company's balance-sheet transformation is a genuine positive: net cash improved from a negative $339 million a year ago to a positive $207 million, and unrestricted cash reached $317 million. Yet investors appear to be demanding clearer evidence that operational momentum, not just debt reduction and interest-expense savings, can drive sustainable profit growth. The absence of formal guidance and management Q&A leaves the pace of the turnaround as the central open question for traders in the sessions ahead.
