Nature's Sunshine Products, Inc. (NATR), a global natural health and wellness company that markets nutritional and personal care products in more than 40 countries, saw its stock plunge sharply on Thursday. Shares were trading near $10.22, down approximately 20.40% from the prior session's close of $12.84. The selloff extended an after-hours decline triggered by third-quarter results released late Wednesday, as investors reacted to a revenue miss, weaker-than-expected earnings, and another reduction in the company's full-year outlook.
The decline was an earnings-driven move. For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, NATR reported net sales of $116.6 million, down 9.1% year over year and below analyst expectations. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.14, down sharply from the prior year and well short of consensus estimates. Adjusted EBITDA fell to $11.1 million from $15.2 million a year earlier, primarily reflecting lower revenue.
CEO Ken Romanzi described the quarter as "disappointing" and one that "fell well short of our expectations." The miss was broad-based, with operating margin compressing to 4.5% from 7.0% a year ago and gross margin slipping modestly on unfavorable foreign exchange.
Compounding the earnings miss, management lowered its 2026 outlook for the second consecutive quarter. The company now expects full-year net sales of $460 million to $470 million, down from its August forecast of $490 million to $500 million. Adjusted EBITDA guidance was similarly trimmed to $44 million to $48 million from $48 million to $52 million. The downward revision signaled to markets that the headwinds facing the business are more persistent than previously anticipated.
The most significant drag came from China, where constant-currency sales plunged 52% year over year. Management attributed the decline to operational disruptions that damaged its consultant leadership base more than initially expected, and said China is likely to remain a headwind into 2027. Taiwan also remained weak, although growth in Japan provided a partial offset.
Meanwhile, the company's digital segment, which had been a standout growth engine, posted its first-ever quarterly decline of 1%. Management cited tougher comparisons as it lapped viral-product momentum and TikTok-driven expansion, as well as reduced effectiveness of paid search amid the rise of AI agents. North American sales fell 6% during the quarter.
The sharp price move reflected heavy selling pressure as investors repriced the stock following the guidance reset. The decline began in after-hours trading late Wednesday, when shares dropped roughly 13% immediately after the report, and intensified during Thursday's regular session as the stock slid below the $11 mark. The move stood in contrast to the broader market, indicating that the selloff was company-specific rather than a sector-wide or macro-driven event.
The drop pushed shares well below recent trading ranges and broke through prior support levels established over the past several months. The severity of the move underscores how quickly sentiment can shift for small-cap consumer staples companies when growth narratives reverse on multiple fronts at once.
Looking ahead, investors will focus on whether NATR can stabilize its China operations and reaccelerate its digital business. Management outlined several catalysts, including a women's health product launch across Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, a reimagined U.S. direct-selling program planned for mid-2027, and a third consultant base in Osaka, Japan. The company also reaffirmed its longer-term goals of reaching $1 billion in sales and a 15% EBITDA margin.
However, significant uncertainties remain. China is expected to weigh on results into 2027, digital comparisons remain difficult, and a recent acquisition search yielded no near-term deal after the company walked away from one target. With $89.4 million in cash and no debt, the balance sheet provides some cushion, but the path back to growth appears to require several quarters of execution.
