ASML is the world’s dominant supplier of lithography systems used to manufacture advanced semiconductors, including extreme ultraviolet (EUV) machines essential to cutting-edge chips. Its results are widely viewed as a leading indicator for the broader semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) investment cycle. After a slower start to 2026, management had signaled that the second half would accelerate, and this report tests whether that ramp is on track. With AI-driven demand pushing customers to add capacity aggressively, ASML’s ability to execute its production ramp—and its guidance on supply and margins—carries significant weight for investors across the technology supply chain. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
For the third quarter of 2026, ASML reported total net sales of €11.7 billion, a record and roughly 55% higher than the €7.5 billion posted a year earlier. Net system sales came in at €8.4 billion, while Installed Base Management sales—ASML’s net service and field option revenue—reached €3.3 billion, above guidance of about €2.9 billion as customers accelerated productivity upgrades.
Gross margin was 57.5%, ahead of guidance, and operating margin expanded to 44.4%. Net income rose to €5.0 billion, and basic EPS reached €12.95. While net sales landed slightly below the consensus estimate of about €11.74 billion, profitability clearly exceeded expectations, with net income coming in well above the roughly €4.2 billion analysts had projected.
Looking ahead, ASML guided fourth-quarter total net sales to between €14.2 billion and €15.2 billion, with a gross margin around 57%, R&D costs of about €1.2 billion, and SG&A costs of about €0.4 billion. For the full year, the company now expects total net sales of €44 billion to €45 billion and a gross margin around 56%. ASML also repurchased about €4.1 billion of shares in the quarter and declared an interim dividend of €1.88 per ordinary share, payable on November 4, 2026.
Despite the record results and a strong profit beat, ASML shares traded lower following the release, with investors focusing on the slight revenue miss relative to consensus and the forward gross-margin outlook. The company guided fourth-quarter gross margin to around 57%, modestly below the 57.5% delivered in the third quarter, citing ramp costs tied to its capacity expansion. Sentiment remains broadly positive, however, given management’s unusually long demand visibility—spanning into 2029 and 2030—and its message that the primary constraint is supply, not end-market demand. The AI build-out continues to anchor investor enthusiasm, even as near-term execution and margin trajectory remain key watch items.
The central theme for ASML going forward is capacity, not demand. Management stated that planned supply for both 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand, and the company is now exploring ways to lift 2028 capacity beyond the 30% increase it had previously communicated. That expansion effort—and the ramp costs that come with it—will be a key driver of gross margin in the quarters ahead.
Investors should also monitor the mix of the business. ASML expects roughly 36% full-year net sales growth in 2026, with EUV revenue up more than 45%, non-EUV systems up about 20%, and Installed Base Management sales up close to 50%. Memory net system sales are projected to rise about 75%, driven by advanced DRAM capacity additions, while logic sales are expected to grow around 10%.
Other factors to watch include China, which management expects to represent around 20% of 2026 total net sales, and the rollout of value-based pricing on critical products, whose financial impact is expected to become visible from 2027 and more fully in 2028. Supply-chain execution, customer clean-room readiness, and the pace of High-NA EUV adoption all remain important to ASML’s ability to convert its strong order book into sustained revenue and margin growth.
