Chime Financial's third-quarter results mark an important checkpoint as the fintech moves from high-growth startup mode toward sustainable profitability as a public company. Following its IPO in June 2025, attention has focused on whether the company can expand its member base while turning that growth into consistent earnings. Three straight quarters of GAAP profitability now stand out as a clear milestone for a business that posted deep losses in 2025. The quarter also arrives alongside a major strategic move: the planned $590 million acquisition of Stride Bank, which would give Chime direct control of a national banking license. Together, the numbers provide fresh insight into both near-term execution and longer-term strategy.
For the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, CHYM posted revenue of $718.0 million, a 32% increase from $543.5 million a year earlier and ahead of the roughly $700.5 million consensus. GAAP diluted EPS reached $0.11, topping the $0.09 estimate and reversing from a $0.15 per-share loss in the prior-year period. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
Both core revenue engines contributed. Payments revenue climbed 22% to $444 million, or 26% when including Outbound Instant Transfer revenue. Platform-related revenue jumped 52% to $274 million, driven by continued scaling of MyPay and Instant Loans. Gross profit came in at $646.1 million for a 90% margin.
Net income totaled $43.7 million, or a 6% net margin, compared with a $54.7 million loss last year. Adjusted EBITDA reached $137 million, reflecting a 19% margin and a 14-percentage-point improvement year over year. Active members rose 20% to 10.9 million, while ARPAM increased 10% to $270.
Investors reacted positively. CHYM shares closed up 5.78% on November 4 and extended gains in after-hours trading. The move reflects growing confidence that revenue growth is now paired with meaningful operating leverage, as the adjusted EBITDA margin expanded sharply. The raised guidance for the fourth quarter and full year also signaled management’s confidence in demand heading into 2027. That said, some analysts note that positive surprises are moderating, suggesting the valuation already prices in much of the improving fundamentals.
Management now expects full-year 2026 revenue growth of 28%, up from its previous target, and projects fourth-quarter revenue of $757–$767 million, above consensus. The pending $590 million acquisition of Stride Bank remains the largest longer-term catalyst, with closing targeted for the first half of 2027 pending regulatory approval. Direct ownership of a bank license could lower partner-bank fees and speed product development, though it brings added regulatory oversight, including the $10 billion Durbin threshold for debit interchange fees.
Other items worth monitoring include scaling of MyPay and Instant Loans, early traction of the Chime Prime premium tier, integration of recently announced credit products, and continued cost discipline after the 10% workforce reduction announced earlier in 2026. These factors will determine whether CHYM can maintain both growth and profitability as it transitions into a more integrated financial institution.
