Extreme Networks' first-quarter fiscal 2027 report gives an early look at how its push toward an AI-powered, subscription-focused networking approach is showing up in the numbers. The company faces larger competitors in the networking space and has positioned Platform ONE as its main growth driver amid rising component costs and shifting industry dynamics. From what I see, this quarter tests whether solid demand and recurring-revenue momentum can support ongoing double-digit growth while margins keep improving. The update also highlights management's view that it can gain ground with Wi-Fi 7 offerings and agentic AI features.
Extreme Networks posted total net revenue of $341.1 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, ended September 30, 2026. That marked a 10% rise from $310.25 million a year earlier and came in above consensus as well as the top end of the company's own guidance. Product revenue increased 12% year over year to $218 million, extending a streak of seven straight quarters with double-digit gains, while recurring revenue climbed 7% to $119 million.
On a GAAP basis, net income reached $15.98 million, or $0.12 per diluted share, compared with $5.61 million, or $0.04 per diluted share, in the prior-year period. Non-GAAP EPS, which strips out items like share-based compensation and intangible amortization, landed at $0.33. That topped the $0.28 consensus by $0.05 and reflected 50% year-over-year growth. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
Gross margin improved to 62.6%, up 130 basis points from a year ago, while operating margin widened to 17.4%, up 410 basis points. Adjusted EBITDA grew 47% to $66 million.
Even with the beats on both the top and bottom lines, shares of EXTR traded essentially flat on the day, closing near $23.85. It appears some of the positive momentum had already been priced in after the stock's earlier advance. Pre-earnings sentiment had been cautiously positive, with a handful of analysts tweaking targets in the run-up. The limited price reaction suggests investors balanced the solid results against lingering questions around component and memory costs, along with a short-term dip in recurring-revenue growth as older support contracts shift to the Platform ONE subscription model.
Management provided an optimistic outlook, calling for second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue between $345.8 million and $350.8 million while lifting full-year fiscal 2027 targets to revenue of $1.402 billion to $1.412 billion and non-GAAP EPS of $1.35 to $1.39. That points to continued double-digit revenue growth, which management tied to visible demand and opportunities to take share from rivals.
Several areas stand out for monitoring in coming quarters. The speed of Platform ONE adoption will be key, especially whether the company can move more than half its customer base onto the platform by the end of fiscal 2027. SaaS ARR growth and the anticipated rebound in recurring revenue during fiscal 2028 will also draw attention as legacy contracts convert. Margin trends deserve watching too, given that higher memory and component costs are already baked into current and guided gross margins. Finally, Wi-Fi 7 uptake and the launch of the next-generation agentic AI platform remain important demand factors that could influence both growth and competitive standing through the rest of the year.
