Fabrinet is a Cayman Islands-incorporated, Thailand-based provider of advanced optical packaging and precision optical, electro-mechanical, and electronic manufacturing services. The company manufactures complex products for original equipment manufacturers across optical communications, data-center interconnect, high-performance computing, industrial lasers, automotive, medical devices, and sensors.
Fabrinet has become a key supplier into the AI-driven data-center buildout, producing optical transceivers and related components for major customers. In fiscal 2026, Cisco, NVIDIA, Nokia, and Amazon each contributed more than 10% of revenue. Investors follow the stock closely because its results serve as a read-through on AI networking and optical-interconnect demand, though its concentrated customer base and low double-digit margins make the shares sensitive to shifts in orders, product mix, and capital spending.
Over the 30 days through late October, Fabrinet shares fell from a $424.27 close on September 30 to roughly $331, a decline of about 22%. The move was not linear: the stock briefly rallied into early October, reaching the high $490s before a sharp mid-month reversal pushed it to a 52-week low of $305.63 on October 23.
The quarterly picture is similarly weak. From a close near $439 in late July, the stock is down roughly 25% over the trailing three months. The stock had peaked near $598 in mid-August before a sustained, multi-month downtrend. This means the 30-day slide is part of a broader repricing rather than an isolated event, with the shares now trading well below their 200-day moving average and near 52-week lows.
Several verified factors contributed to the recent decline. First, investors focused on customer concentration and the normalization of NVIDIA-related transceiver revenue. Fabrinet was an early sole manufacturer of NVIDIA's 400G and later 800G optical transceivers, but NVIDIA has diversified its sourcing, reducing a once-exceptional growth driver; NVIDIA accounted for about 16% of fiscal 2026 revenue. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
Second, margin and cash-flow concerns resurfaced. Non-GAAP gross margin contracted roughly 30 basis points year over year to 12.2% in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, and management signaled seasonal margin pressure into the first quarter of fiscal 2027. Heavy capacity expansion pushed fourth-quarter capital expenditures to about $92 million against $55 million of operating cash flow, producing negative free cash flow of roughly $37 million.
Third, a wider selloff in AI-infrastructure and optical-networking stocks, compounded by concerns over returns on debt-funded AI buildouts, weighed on the sector. On October 15, B. Riley lowered its price target on Fabrinet to $431 from $598 while keeping a Neutral rating, citing multiple compression among AI-derivative optical stocks.
The quarterly decline reflects a broader repricing of AI-optics valuations rather than a collapse in demand. Fabrinet reported record fiscal fourth-quarter results on August 17, with revenue of $1.316 billion, up 45% year over year, and data-center revenue of $669 million, up 68% year over year. Fiscal 2026 revenue rose 36% to $4.64 billion, and non-GAAP earnings per share reached $14.09.
Despite that strength, the market increasingly focused on the quality of earnings. Full-year free cash flow was only about $4 million as the company reinvested heavily in Thailand manufacturing capacity. A hot September CPI print that revived rate-hike concerns and a "sell the news" reaction around the Open Compute Project Global Summit also pressured optical names. The result was a steep de-rating: the stock's forward valuation compressed from more than 40 times earnings to roughly the high teens.
The most immediate catalyst is Fabrinet's first-quarter fiscal 2027 report, scheduled for November 2, for the quarter ended September 25. Management guided to revenue of $1.375 billion to $1.425 billion and non-GAAP earnings per share of $4.10 to $4.25; investors will focus on whether results land within that range and on gross-margin commentary.
Beyond earnings, watch free cash flow conversion and capital-spending discipline, the ramp of hyperscaler-direct and merchant transceiver programs, and progress on near-package and co-packaged optics. Customer concentration remains a key risk, as do shifts in orders from NVIDIA, Cisco, Nokia, and Amazon, plus tax and margin pressures. Broader AI-infrastructure sentiment and interest-rate expectations are also likely to influence the stock's direction.
