Facebook Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer is planning to resign his position after a transition period. Schroepfer will transition to become the company's first senior fellow.
The social media behemoth mentioned in a statement that it will replace Schroepfer with its head of Facebook Reality Labs Andrew Bosworth in 2022. As CTO, Bosworth will continue to oversee the Facebook Reality Labs division as well as the company’s work in augmented reality and virtual reality, according to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s blog post.
In a Monday Securities and Exchange Commission Form 8-K filing, Facebook announced that Schroepfer was leaving the company but that the effective date of the transition and compensation terms of the arrangement had not been determined.
As senior fellow, Schroepfer will focus on helping the company recruit and develop technical talent, and expand its artificial intelligence projects, the statement said.
