GE Vernova, the energy and electrification business spun off from General Electric, sits at the center of a global electricity supercycle driven by data-center expansion, grid modernization, and industrial electrification. As a bellwether for power-equipment demand, its quarterly results signal the strength of capital spending across utilities and hyperscale technology customers. Coming into the third quarter, I was watching whether record order momentum could translate into meaningful revenue growth and margin expansion, and whether the Wind segment — long a drag on profitability — could finally stabilize. Strong results here reinforce the thesis that grid and gas-turbine demand remains durable, while raised guidance and an expanded buyback highlight management's confidence in sustained, compounding cash generation. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
For the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, GE Vernova reported revenue of $12.64 billion, a 27% increase year over year (18% organic), exceeding the consensus estimate of roughly $11.99 billion. Diluted EPS was $4.81, compared with $1.64 in the prior-year period and ahead of the approximately $4.01 analysts had projected. Net income rose to $1.29 billion from $453 million a year earlier, and adjusted EBITDA climbed to $1.94 billion, lifting the adjusted EBITDA margin to 15.4% from 8.1%.
Orders jumped to $29.3 billion, up 96% organically, and total backlog reached $197 billion. By segment, Power revenue rose 25% to $6.07 billion with a 21.4% segment EBITDA margin, while Electrification revenue increased 51% to $3.86 billion with a 19.1% margin. Wind revenue rose 4% to $2.74 billion, with segment EBITDA turning positive at $72 million, aided by lower offshore project costs and tariff recoveries. Cash from operating activities was $6.06 billion and free cash flow (FCF) was $5.41 billion.
The company raised its 2026 outlook: revenue of $46.5–$47.5 billion (up from $45.5–$46.5 billion), adjusted EBITDA margin of 13.5%–14.5%, and FCF of $16–$17 billion. It also doubled its share repurchase authorization to $20 billion and agreed to acquire high-voltage grid-equipment maker Trench Group for $9 billion.
The stock's initial reaction was mixed. Shares rose about 2.7% in premarket trading following the release, but gave back gains during the session as investors weighed already-elevated expectations, lingering uncertainty in the Wind segment, and the sizable Trench acquisition. The beat-and-raise headline was clear, yet the pullback reflected how much optimism was already priced into a stock that had climbed sharply on data-center and grid-demand enthusiasm. Sentiment remains broadly constructive given accelerating orders and expanding margins, but the day's trading suggests investors are increasingly scrutinizing execution risks and capital-allocation decisions alongside the headline numbers.
Looking ahead, GE Vernova's raised guidance points to accelerating revenue growth and margin expansion into year-end, with management expecting backlog to exceed $200 billion in the fourth quarter. Investors should watch whether Power segment margins continue their upward trajectory as better-priced gas equipment flows through results, and whether Electrification sustains its near-19% margins while absorbing heavy research and development spending.
The Wind segment remains the key swing factor. Onshore U.S. orders remain difficult to predict given permitting delays and tariff uncertainty, and management has signaled that remaining offshore work must still be completed through 2027. A durable inflection here would remove a long-standing overhang on consolidated profitability.
Capital allocation will also be in focus. The planned $9 billion Trench Group acquisition is expected to close in late 2027 and is intended to be margin-accretive, while the doubled $20 billion buyback authorization signals a commitment to returning cash. Finally, the sustainability of grid and data-center order momentum, particularly high-voltage equipment demand, will determine whether the current electricity supercycle narrative can continue to support elevated growth expectations.
