HubSpot’s third-quarter report arrived at an important juncture for the CRM software provider. The company is navigating a broad shift toward artificial intelligence, reshaping its platform, pricing, and sales approach around “agentic” tools that focus on outcomes instead of traditional workflows. This transition has brought longer sales cycles, greater caution among smaller buyers, and a workforce reduction tied to the reorganization. In my view, investors were looking for signs that margin improvements and AI traction could counterbalance the moderating top-line growth.
HubSpot posted a solid headline quarter paired with a more guarded near-term view. Total revenue reached $947.6 million, up 17% year over year and ahead of the consensus estimate of approximately $925 million. Subscription revenue grew 18% to $930.2 million, while services and other revenue declined 3% to $17.3 million. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of $3.81 comfortably exceeded the $3.27 to $3.28 range analysts had projected, and GAAP net income totaled $83.0 million, or $1.67 per diluted share.
Profitability metrics continued to strengthen. Non-GAAP operating margin widened to 22.6% from 19.9% a year earlier, and GAAP operating margin climbed to 7.6% from 1.4%. The company finished the quarter with 311,704 customers, up 12% year over year, and average subscription revenue per customer of $12,038, up 4%. Calculated billings rose 15% to $924.9 million.
The gap appeared in the forward guidance. For the fourth quarter, HubSpot expects revenue of $945 million to $947 million and non-GAAP earnings per share of $3.85 to $3.87 — both below consensus. Full-year 2026 revenue guidance of roughly $3.69 billion aligned closely with estimates, while full-year non-GAAP earnings per share guidance of $13.59 to $13.61 came in slightly above the $13.30 consensus. HubSpot shares dropped sharply in after-hours trading after the report, as attention turned to the softer fourth-quarter outlook rather than the third-quarter beat. The implied deceleration—from 17% revenue growth in Q3 to roughly 12% year-over-year growth at the midpoint of Q4 guidance—highlighted worries about demand and pricing pressures linked to the AI transition. The newly announced restructuring plan added near-term execution uncertainty. While margin expansion and a reduced share count were viewed positively, the softer billings growth relative to revenue added to caution about future revenue momentum.
HubSpot’s management presented the current period as a conscious trade-off: accepting near-term growth pressure to build a faster-growing, more profitable business centered on AI. Investors will be watching whether that approach delivers measurable results in the quarters ahead.
Customer growth and net additions remain a key metric. The company added roughly 5,300 net new customers in Q3, reflecting ongoing demand softness and buyer hesitation, especially among smaller businesses. A sustained pickup in new logo additions would indicate that the pricing changes and AI product strategy are gaining traction.
The evolving pricing model is another area of focus. HubSpot is testing a hybrid “seats and credits” structure intended to simplify purchases and encourage AI feature adoption. Management highlighted encouraging early results from pilot regions, including higher credit usage. The pace at which this model expands will affect both revenue growth and customer retention.
Finally, margin execution and the effects of the restructuring plan, which carries expected charges of $65 million to $75 million, warrant close attention. The company has shown meaningful operating leverage, but the benefits of cost actions and AI-driven efficiencies will need to offset slowing revenue growth to maintain profitability gains. From what I see, this balance will be important to track.
