Check Point Software Technologies is a pure-play cybersecurity vendor... Show more
Check Point Software Technologies is a global cybersecurity leader, and its quarterly results offer a window into enterprise security spending at a time when artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the threat landscape. For several quarters, the company has navigated a transition in its go-to-market organization and softer firewall hardware refresh cycles, making this report a test of whether management's "trough" thesis is playing out. Investors are closely watching the shift toward subscription-based revenue, which now accounts for more than half of total sales, as a sign of a more durable, recurring business model. The print also matters for the broader cybersecurity sector, where demand for AI-driven protection and exposure management is a key growth narrative.
For the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, Check Point reported total revenue of $670 million, down 1% from $677.5 million a year earlier. Security subscriptions revenue rose 11% year over year to $339 million, while remaining performance obligation (RPO), a measure of contracted future revenue not yet recognized, reached $2.5 billion, up 5%.
On the bottom line, non-GAAP EPS was $2.49 and GAAP EPS was $1.82, down 37% and 45% year over year, respectively. Those declines reflect a one-time tax benefit of approximately $1.47 per share recognized in the prior-year quarter; excluding that item, both figures increased 1%. Adjusted free cash flow was $258 million, and cash flow from operations was $264 million. Revenue landed slightly below the consensus estimate of about $672 million, while adjusted EPS matched expectations.
For the fourth quarter, the company guided to revenue of $720 million to $770 million and non-GAAP EPS of $2.71 to $2.83. For full-year 2026, it expects revenue of $2.732 billion to $2.782 billion and non-GAAP EPS of $10.25 to $10.37.

Shares of Check Point fell sharply in pre-market trading following the report, with declines reported in the range of roughly 6% to 10% across financial media. The negative reaction appeared tied to the modest revenue miss and management's acknowledgment that the product recovery is taking longer than expected, even as adjusted EPS came in line with consensus and subscriptions showed continued momentum. Investors appeared to weigh the company's cautious fourth-quarter outlook and the softer-than-expected pace of the firewall rebound against improving leading indicators such as large enterprise deal wins and growth in newer technologies like email security, AI security, and Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM), a framework for continuously identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities.
Management signaled that it expects sequential revenue improvement starting in the fourth quarter, though the recovery is likely to be gradual. A few areas deserve attention in the coming quarters.
First, subscription durability will be a central theme. The company expects annual subscription revenue to cross $1.5 billion in 2027, supported by recently announced price increases of 12% to 20% on firewall products effective October 4, 2026, and continued demand for AI, CTEM, and email security. Investors will watch whether subscription growth can re-accelerate in the first half of 2027 after an expected near-term deceleration tied to lower attached firewall subscriptions.
Second, currency remains a headwind. Management cited an impact of roughly $30 million year to date from the weakening of the U.S. dollar against the Israeli shekel and estimated an incremental operating-expense headwind of up to $50 million in 2027 if exchange rates stay near current levels. Higher memory costs were also flagged as a factor pressuring gross margin.
Finally, the product segment will be a key swing factor. Lower firewall appliance refresh activity weighed on both product revenue and attached maintenance and services revenue this quarter. Management pointed to a planned Capital Markets Day in February 2027 as an opportunity to outline its longer-term strategy for repositioning the company around preemptive, AI-driven security.
