Abercrombie & Fitch Co. operates as a global specialty apparel retailer with two main brands: Abercrombie & Fitch, which focuses on premium casual and lifestyle apparel, and Hollister, its teen-oriented, California-inspired label. The company reaches customers through its stores, digital platforms, and an expanding wholesale channel. In recent years it has repositioned both brands around inclusive sizing, full-price selling, and a refreshed product assortment.
Investors track ANF because of its multi-year turnaround. After a long period of challenges, the company has restored margins and brand relevance while delivering steady sales growth and better profitability. Its strengths include loyal younger consumers, a disciplined full-price approach, growth in the Asia-Pacific region, and a more efficient operating model after completing its ERP rollout.
Over the past 30 days, ANF rose approximately 25%, moving from a late-August close near $109 to around $136 by late September. Most of the advance came in one session when shares jumped roughly 36% on the fiscal second-quarter results.
The broader trend has also been positive. The stock had traded between roughly $90 and $118 through late July and much of August before the earnings report prompted a sharp re-rating. After peaking near $148, shares pulled back into the mid-$130s amid some profit-taking but retained most of the post-earnings gains.
The main driver was the fiscal 2026 second-quarter earnings release on August 26. The company posted adjusted EPS of $4.17, beating consensus by more than $2 per share. Revenue grew 5% year over year to a record $1.27 billion, marking the 15th straight quarter of sales growth.
Growth was broad-based across brands and regions. The Abercrombie brand posted an 8% sales increase and Hollister rose 2%, both setting second-quarter records. Asia-Pacific sales jumped 19%. Management raised full-year guidance to about 5% sales growth, an operating margin of 14.5%–15%, and EPS of $13.10–$13.60.
Two other elements supported the move. A roughly $100 million tariff refund added about $1.75 to quarterly EPS, and the company lifted its fiscal 2026 buyback target to at least $500 million after already repurchasing about 7% of shares earlier in the year. Jefferies raised its price target to $175 from $135, citing confidence in full-price selling and improving trends. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
Over the full quarter, ANF’s performance reflected a re-acceleration in fundamentals that changed investor expectations. Earlier in the period the stock had faced concerns about slowing comparable sales and softness at Hollister.
The August report reset that view. Even without the one-time tariff benefit, underlying results exceeded prior guidance, helped by stronger gross margins and operating leverage. Completion of the ERP project removed a roughly 100-basis-point drag on growth. New initiatives, including the Hollister wholesale partnership with Target and the Abercrombie brand’s NFL collaboration, expanded reach. An upgraded outlook, aggressive buybacks, and evidence that core-brand momentum remains intact supported the quarter’s gains.
Investors will focus on third-quarter results, which management guided to EPS of $2.90–$3.20 on 5%–6% sales growth. This will test whether Hollister can regain momentum and whether August trends continue. The final tariff refunds, about $20 million expected in the third quarter, mark the end of that one-time boost.
Longer term, sustainability of operating margins, the pace of Asia-Pacific expansion, execution on the Target partnership, and ongoing share repurchases will matter. As a discretionary retailer, ANF also remains exposed to consumer spending, inflation, and broader economic conditions.
