Games publishing giant Activision is set to bring its most popular first-person shooter franchise, ‘Call of Duty,’ to Android and iOS. The company used Unity’s GDC keynote on March 18 to announce this move now set for worldwide availability.
The game, titled ‘Call of Duty: Mobile’ is a free-to-play multiplayer title developed by Chinese tech giant Tencent’s Timi division. Understandably, the game was primarily launched for the Chinese market, but now Activision has confirmed that a public beta is coming to select regions in the West this summer, including North America, South America, Europe, and more.
The game will be inspired by some of the most popular Call of Duty games, such as ‘Modern Warfare’ and ‘Black Ops’. Further, Mobile will offer some fan-favorite Call of Duty multiplayer modes, including Search and Destroy and Free-For-All, as well as notable maps like Nuketown and Hijacked.
According to an Activision press release, the new format will enable players to earn and unlock classic Call of Duty characters, weapons, score streaks and other gear to equip and customize their load-outs.
For now, Android users can pre-register for ‘Call of Duty: Mobile’ on the Google Play Store.
