The Grayscale Hyperliquid Staking ETF (HYPG) is a passively managed, single-asset ETP that began trading on Nasdaq in early June 2026 under the sponsorship of Grayscale Investments Sponsors, LLC. Its investment objective is to reflect the value of HYPE, the native token of the Hyperliquid protocol, held by the fund, less expenses and liabilities. The fund benchmarks against the CoinDesk Hyperliquid Benchmark Extended Rate.
Unlike a diversified exchange-traded fund (ETF), HYPG holds one digital asset: approximately 2 million HYPE tokens, representing roughly $110 million in assets under management (AUM). There is no sector allocation to speak of, because the entire portfolio is concentrated in a single cryptocurrency. The management fee is 0.29%, which Grayscale has positioned as the lowest gross fee among U.S.-listed Hyperliquid ETPs. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the fund compares to others in the industry.
A defining structural feature is staking. The fund stakes the vast majority of its HYPE holdings (around 94%) to help secure the Hyperliquid network, with gross staking rewards near 2.2% and net staking rewards of roughly 1.6% after fees. Historically, HYPE staking has averaged approximately 2.2% to 2.3% annually. Because HYPG is not registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940, it does not carry the same regulatory protections as a conventional registered ETF and is subject to heightened volatility.
HYPG's move has been trend-driven and punctuated by sharp, high-volume breakouts rather than a slow, steady grind. Over the trailing 30 days, the fund's price rose about 15%, from roughly $28.97 to approximately $33.44. The advance was concentrated in two bursts: a pronounced gap higher in mid-August and another leg up in mid-September as HYPE reached successive record highs.
The longer view is even more striking. Over the trailing three months, HYPG gained approximately 56%, climbing from about $21.44 in late June to the most recent level near $33.44. This quarterly performance tracks the broader re-rating of HYPE, which has significantly outperformed many larger cryptocurrencies over the same period despite intermittent drawdowns.
Because HYPG is a single-asset vehicle, its recent price action is a direct function of HYPE, which climbed to all-time highs above $90 and approached $97 in late September. Several identifiable developments contributed to that rally.
First, Hyperliquid's underlying economics strengthened materially. The protocol's market liquidity reached a record of roughly $8.8 billion, and daily revenue roughly doubled quarter over quarter, accelerating the HYPE buyback-and-burn mechanism. A large portion of protocol fees has historically been directed toward token buybacks, tightening supply, while the burn program has removed tens of millions of HYPE from circulation.
Second, regulatory developments boosted on-chain infrastructure assets. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission introduced a temporary "innovation exemption" permitting qualifying tokenized-securities venues, which markets interpreted as a step toward migrating more traditional financial activity on-chain, directly benefiting exchange and derivatives infrastructure such as Hyperliquid.
Third, product and access catalysts compounded the move. Payward, the parent of the Kraken exchange, outlined plans to offer HYPE perpetual futures to U.S. clients through the CFTC-regulated Bitnomial venue, using Hyperliquid's framework. Hyperliquid also launched a lending feature that saw roughly $269 million borrowed on its first day, reducing selling pressure as holders accessed liquidity without selling their tokens. A spot listing on Binance added further distribution and liquidity.
The three-month trend reflects structural momentum rather than a single headline. Hyperliquid has consolidated its position as one of the highest-earning applications in decentralized finance, generating roughly $429 million in fees between the start of the year and mid-September, the most of any non-stablecoin crypto project over that stretch, according to industry trackers. With the vast majority of fees recycled into buybacks, the token's value-accrual model attracted sustained interest.
Broader capital rotation also played a role. While major assets such as Bitcoin traded well below prior highs during parts of 2026, investors increasingly directed capital toward revenue-generating, fee-based infrastructure tokens rather than pure store-of-value assets. This thematic shift favored HYPE and, by extension, HYPG.
Institutional adoption added a further layer of support. HYPG emerged as a leading vehicle in the newly formed Hyperliquid ETP category, and inflows into HYPE-linked funds generally reflected growing institutional demand for regulated exposure to on-chain market infrastructure. The fund's low fee and integrated staking yield reinforced its competitive positioning within this expanding product segment.
The primary variable for HYPG remains the price and network activity of HYPE, which in turn hinges on several structural factors. Regulatory progress will be pivotal: the approval status of Payward's plan to bring HYPE perpetual futures to U.S. clients through Bitnomial, and the evolution of the SEC's tokenized-securities framework, could materially influence the protocol's addressable market and revenue trajectory.
Competitive dynamics also warrant monitoring. Established platforms including Coinbase and Robinhood have signaled ambitions in perpetual-futures markets, which could pressure Hyperliquid's fee advantage over time even as the broader on-chain derivatives market expands.
Supply mechanics present a two-sided risk. With only about a quarter of HYPE's maximum supply currently in circulation, thin float can amplify upside but also magnifies the impact of future token unlocks. Staking rewards, while modest, are not guaranteed and introduce lock-up and custodial considerations. Finally, as a single-asset, high-volatility product, HYPG remains exposed to crypto market sentiment, interest-rate expectations, and the broader risk-appetite environment, making it inherently more volatile than diversified funds.
When researching single-asset products like HYPG or comparing them to thematic peers, I find Tickeron’s AI Screener particularly useful for quickly scanning technical indicators, fundamentals, and volatility metrics across thousands of securities. It helps surface comparable ideas without manual effort, which I often use as a starting point before diving deeper into specific holdings or sectors.

My objective is to build a well-balanced ETF portfolio that combines core investment holdings with more tactical and speculative positions. The goal is to create a portfolio that can participate effectively in market rallies while also remaining resilient during periods of volatility and market corrections.
