CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (CX) ranks among the world's largest building materials companies, with operations spanning cement, ready-mix concrete, and aggregates in Mexico, the United States, Europe, and beyond. The third-quarter numbers provide a useful checkpoint on whether the multi-year "Project Cutting Edge" initiative continues to drive structurally better margins and cash generation amid higher interest rates, energy costs, and uneven construction activity. After four prior quarters of double-digit EBITDA and EBIT expansion, the latest report gives investors a clearer view of pricing discipline, cost control, and balance-sheet progress in a cyclical sector.
CEMEX posted adjusted earnings from continuing operations of $0.28 per ADS in the third quarter of 2026, topping the $0.24 consensus. Net sales advanced 8% year over year to $4.59 billion, clearing the $4.45 billion estimate and rising from $4.25 billion the prior year. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
Operating EBITDA increased 12% to $990 million, with EBIT rising 19%, extending the streak of double-digit gains in both metrics to five straight quarters. The EBITDA margin widened 0.8 percentage points to 21.6%. Controlling interest net income jumped 55% to $407 million.
Cash flow stood out as particularly strong. Free cash flow from operations hit a record $723 million, up 34%, while year-to-date free cash flow nearly tripled to $1.4 billion. Net debt ended the period at roughly $5.42 billion, down from $5.59 billion a year earlier.
Regional results varied. Mexico's EBITDA rose 30% to $480 million, supported by 7% cement volume growth and efficiency gains. U.S. EBITDA fell 4% to $259 million due to an unplanned outage and higher raw-material costs, even though cement and aggregates volumes each increased 4%. The Europe, Middle East and Africa region reported EBITDA of $257 million, up 4%.
Shares of CX rose about 2.84% in pre-market trading after the release. The combination of an earnings beat, revenue outperformance, and the fifth consecutive quarter of double-digit EBITDA growth appeared to support the move. Strong free-cash-flow improvement and continued debt reduction added to confidence in the ongoing transformation narrative.
Some caution remained because of the regional split, with U.S. margins declining despite volume gains, and management noting rising cost inflation for the first time in six quarters. Overall, the margin-expansion and cash-conversion story held up, supporting a generally positive initial response.
Management reaffirmed full-year guidance for 16%–17% EBITDA growth, indicating continued confidence even as higher energy and maintenance costs plus foreign-exchange volatility are expected in the fourth quarter. For 2027, the company sees mid- to high-single-digit energy inflation and intends to seek mid-single-digit price increases to offset it. Substantial hedging of diesel and electricity exposure should help limit input-cost swings.
Project Cutting Edge has now achieved roughly 80% of its $475 million savings target, with the remaining $95 million expected to flow through in 2027. Asset-pruning efforts, including U.S. divestitures and proposed sales in France, should continue to support capital efficiency.
On the demand side, Mexico’s social-housing and infrastructure programs remain important volume drivers, while U.S. data-center, semiconductor, and power-sector projects offer a modest but growing tailwind. Residential construction in the U.S. stays constrained by affordability, and European demand remains soft amid elevated rates. These longer-term factors will likely matter more than any single quarter in shaping the stock’s path through 2027.
When analyzing results like these, I often use Tickeron’s AI Screener to quickly compare CEMEX with peers on fundamentals, technical patterns, and momentum metrics.
