SE is a Singapore-based consumer internet company operating three core businesses: Shopee, its e-commerce marketplace; Garena, its digital entertainment and gaming division best known for Free Fire and Arena of Valor; and SeaMoney (rebranded Monee), its digital financial services arm offering payments and consumer and SME credit. The company serves markets across Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and Latin America, with Brazil a growing focus. Founded by Forrest Li, Sea is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and counts Tencent among its significant shareholders. Investors follow SE for its exposure to fast-growing emerging-market digital commerce, gaming, and fintech, as well as for its shift toward profitability and disciplined capital allocation, including a $1 billion share repurchase program authorized in late 2025. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
Over the trailing 30 days, SE fell from $97.36 at the Sept. 30 close to $74.24 on Oct. 30, a decline of approximately 23.7%. The stock touched an intraday one-year low near $71.53 on Oct. 26 before stabilizing. The move extends a longer slide: from roughly $111 in early August, shares are down about 33% over the past three months, and the stock has lost roughly 42% year-to-date, sharply underperforming major equity benchmarks. The downtrend has been persistent rather than a single-session shock, with elevated trading volume during the sharpest October declines and the stock trading well below its 50-day and 200-day moving averages.
The sharpest losses followed a leaked internal memo from CEO Forrest Li, reported by The Wall Street Journal, in which Li outlined two strategic moves: potentially listing part of the Monee fintech business to raise capital and positioning Sea as an AI-oriented cloud computing provider. Investors reacted negatively, viewing a Monee listing as potentially separating one of Sea's fastest-growing and most profitable segments and treating the AI cloud push as a capital-intensive entry into a crowded field. Separately, disclosed insider selling weighed on sentiment, including a filing showing Chief Commercial Officer Yanjun Wang sold shares in mid-October. Margin concerns tied to higher investment at Shopee, along with intensifying competition from TikTok Shop in e-commerce, also contributed to cautious positioning. No single negative earnings release drove the move; rather, the decline reflected a combination of strategic uncertainty, insider activity, and fading risk appetite.
Sea's quarterly performance tells a story of strong results giving way to fading momentum. Second-quarter earnings reported on Aug. 11 briefly lifted shares above $131, but the stock relinquished those gains over the following weeks as investors weighed margin pressure from increased Shopee investment and competitive threats. Through September, shares drifted lower as the broader technology sector and emerging-market equities faced a more cautious backdrop. The October strategic announcements then accelerated the decline. The key contrast in the quarter: Sea's operating results have remained robust—first-quarter revenue grew 46.6% year over year and adjusted EBITDA rose 9.3%—yet market sentiment has focused on near-term execution risks and strategic ambiguity rather than top-line momentum.
Sea's next earnings report, scheduled for Nov. 10, 2026, is the primary near-term catalyst. Consensus estimates anticipate revenue around $8.35 billion, up roughly 35% year over year. Investors will focus on Shopee's gross merchandise value growth and margin trajectory, Monee's loan book and asset quality, and Garena's bookings momentum. The broader AI cloud strategy and any updates on a potential Monee listing will also be closely watched, given their role in the recent selloff. Macroeconomic factors, including interest rates, currency moves in Southeast Asia and Brazil, and consumer spending trends, add further variables. Competitive dynamics with TikTok Shop and Lazada remain central to Shopee's outlook. None of these factors should be read as a prediction of future price performance. From what I see, I’m watching this closely ahead of the report.
