Standex International operates across Electronics, Aerospace & Defense, Scientific, and Engraving & Hydraulics. Its fiscal first quarter of 2027, ended September 30, 2026, gave an early signal on whether demand linked to electrification, data centers, and defense is holding up and whether growth investments are paying off in stronger margins. After a record fiscal 2026 that included more than $100 million in sales growth and adjusted EPS of $8.74, the latest results help show whether that momentum can continue. The quarter matters because it reflects both end-market conditions and the company’s pricing power across its industrial businesses.
Standex posted record net sales of $232.6 million, a 7.0% increase year over year and 12.4% organically, beating consensus revenue estimates of about $228.8 million. Adjusted diluted EPS rose 21.1% to $2.41, ahead of the $2.34 consensus, while GAAP diluted EPS moved to $1.99 from $1.25 in the prior-year quarter. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
Profitability improved noticeably. Adjusted gross margin hit a record 44.4%, up 240 basis points, and adjusted operating margin widened 110 basis points to 20.2%. Electronics revenue jumped 27.1% with 29.5% organic growth, while Aerospace & Defense and Scientific increased 5.1% and 1.8%. Engraving & Hydraulics fell 14.9% amid softness in the North American automotive market. Total orders reached about $273 million, pushing the book-to-bill ratio to 1.17.
Before the report, SXI shares had risen roughly 12.6% year to date. The stock closed modestly higher at $248.19 on the day of the release. Because results came after the close, the fuller price reaction will likely develop after the October 30 conference call. The beat-and-raise pattern, record backlog, and book-to-bill above 1.0 point to solid order momentum. That said, ongoing weakness in the automotive-exposed segment is something I’m watching closely.
For fiscal 2027, Standex lifted its total sales growth outlook to high-single digits and now expects organic sales to rise by more than $100 million, with adjusted EPS growing in the high teens. More than 20 new products are planned to add over 300 basis points of growth, and sales from fast-growth markets should exceed $315 million, up more than 20%. For the fiscal second quarter, management sees moderately higher revenue and adjusted operating margin year over year, with interest expense between $7.0 million and $7.5 million.
Several items stand out for the quarters ahead. Electronics demand looks durable given its 1.23 book-to-bill ratio. The automotive pressure in Engraving & Hydraulics needs continued attention. Capital spending of $45 million to $55 million, mainly for Electronics Grid capacity, could support future growth but may affect near-term free cash flow. A new $100 million share repurchase authorization and a 5.9% dividend increase reflect management’s confidence in the balance sheet.
