Oracle Corporation (ORCL) is one of the world's largest enterprise software and cloud providers, with a market capitalization of roughly $400 billion. The company's core database and applications business is being reshaped by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), which has become the centerpiece of its AI strategy. Oracle has signed multi-billion-dollar AI computing contracts with customers such as OpenAI and expanded multicloud partnerships with major rivals including MSFT, AMZN, and GOOGL.
Oracle shares have endured a dramatic correction. After peaking above $320 earlier in the cycle, the stock now trades near $132, a decline of roughly 57% from its highs and within a 52-week range spanning from about $114 to $322. This sharp drawdown reflects investor anxiety about the enormous capital required to fund AI infrastructure, rising interest costs, and concerns about how quickly Oracle can convert its enormous backlog into profitable revenue.
The bull case rests on exceptional momentum in the cloud business. In its most recent quarter, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure revenue grew roughly 121% year over year, while total revenue rose about 30%. The company reported adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $1.92, beating consensus, and raised its fiscal 2027 EPS guidance to $8.10. Most importantly, Oracle carries remaining performance obligations (RPO) — contracted revenue not yet recognized — of approximately $664 billion. This backlog provides unusual revenue visibility and is the foundation of the argument that shares can re-rate higher. Management expects about half of this backlog to convert to revenue within the next three years.
Valuation also supports the bulls. Oracle trades at roughly 18 times forward earnings, a discount to cloud peers that command mid-20s multiples. If investors begin to price Oracle's AI backlog as a growth asset rather than a capital burden, multiple expansion alone could carry the stock toward the $200 level. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
The principal obstacle is financial strain. Oracle guided to $90–95 billion in capital expenditures for fiscal 2027, and free cash flow was negative in the most recent quarter. Gross debt has climbed to more than $125 billion, with net debt near $88 billion, pushing credit spreads wider and prompting concern about leverage. Some analysts note Oracle now sits just one notch above non-investment-grade credit ratings.
Execution risk is equally significant. A large share of the backlog is concentrated with a single AI customer relationship, and any delay in securing power or data-center capacity could slow revenue conversion. There are also questions about the profitability of AI infrastructure contracts, which currently generate lower margins than traditional cloud services.
Wall Street remains broadly constructive despite the selloff. The consensus rating is a Buy, with an average 12-month price target near $238, according to aggregated analyst data. Targets span a wide range, from roughly $110 on the bearish end to $400 on the bullish end. Notable recent calls include targets of $180, $200, $250, $320, and $325 from various firms, illustrating genuine disagreement about how much of the AI backlog will translate into shareholder value. The $200 milestone sits comfortably within this distribution, slightly below the consensus forecast.
From a technical analysis perspective, $200 represents both a psychological round number and a prior area of price significance. The stock's collapse below that zone turned it into a potential resistance level on the way back up. Near-term, Oracle would first need to reclaim intermediate levels in the $150–$160 range before testing higher supply zones. On the downside, the $114 area marks a key support level that has so far held, while any failure to hold current levels would call the recovery thesis into question. From what I see, monitoring these levels closely helps frame realistic expectations for any move higher.
