Chile experienced an apparently unanticipated decline in retail sales in November. On a year-over-year basis, Chile Retail Sales real index dropped -0.8% - the sharpest decline in four years, according to data from the national statistics agency. A Bloomberg survey’s median forecast for November sales in Chile was a +1.8% gain.
November’s decline also marks a reversal from October’s +7.5% increase in Chilean retail sales. The nation’s sales of electronics, pharmacy, cosmetics and personal hygiene goods and fuel dropped in November, while automobile sales slowed sharply.
