Kohl’s  reported second quarter loss narrower than expected.

The department store chain’s adjusted loss came in at -25 cents a share, compared to analysts’ expectations of  -88 cents a share loss (based on FactSet poll). In the year-ago period, it had earnings of $1.55 a share.

Sales down -23% year-over-year to $3.4 billion. But it was better than the $3.1 billion expected by analysts polled by FactSet.

The company’s online sales surged +58%.
