Oatly Group AB is the world’s original and largest oat drink company, headquartered in Malmö, Sweden. For more than 30 years, the company has focused exclusively on developing expertise around oats, unlocking a broad portfolio of plant-based alternatives to dairy that includes oat milks, barista products, ice cream, yogurt, cooking creams, spreads, and on-the-go drinks. The Oatly brand is available in more than 50 countries, and its American Depositary Shares trade on Nasdaq under the ticker OTLY.
Investors follow the stock for its brand recognition, its strong presence in the coffee and barista channel, and its diversification across three reporting regions—Europe & International, North America, and Greater China. At the same time, the company’s path to sustained profitability, its cash-flow generation, and its elevated debt load remain central considerations for the market. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry.
Over the last 30 days, Oatly shares declined from a closing level of about $11.86 on September 28, 2026, to roughly $8.31 by late October, a drop of approximately 30%. A large portion of that move occurred in a single session following the company’s third-quarter earnings release, when the stock gapped lower and continued to slide through the trading day.
The longer three-month trend tells a broader story. After climbing above $15 in late July on the back of strong second-quarter results, the stock gradually faded through September as concerns over Greater China and category competition resurfaced. The third-quarter guidance cut then accelerated the decline, leaving shares down roughly 45% from their late-July peak levels.
The dominant catalyst behind the recent move was Oatly’s third-quarter 2026 earnings report, released on October 28. The company posted revenue of $243.1 million, up 9.1% year over year, and narrowed its net loss to $27.5 million, or $0.86 per ADS, from $65.3 million, or $2.15 per ADS, a year earlier. Gross margin improved to 34.1%, up 436 basis points.
Beneath the headline, performance was uneven. Europe & International revenue grew roughly 20%, driven by 17.6% volume growth in Barista products, while North America revenue rose 2.8%. Greater China, however, remained the weak spot, with revenue down about 15% (19.3% on a constant-currency basis) and volume down 26.2%, pressured by a competitive food-service market.
What ultimately outweighed the revenue and margin progress was guidance. Management reduced full-year 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance to $16–20 million, down from a prior $25–35 million range, while keeping its 8–10% constant-currency revenue growth outlook intact. The company attributed the cut to North America logistics and fuel-cost inflation and freight constraints linked to the Middle East conflict. Free cash flow also deteriorated to negative $18.4 million for the quarter. The combination of the profit-guidance reduction and ongoing China weakness triggered the sharp sell-off.
The quarterly picture reflects a round trip. In late July, Oatly reported second-quarter results that showed 12.7% constant-currency revenue growth, an 11.2% increase in volume, and slightly positive adjusted EBITDA, alongside a raised full-year growth outlook of 8–10%. Those results lifted the stock from around $9 to above $15.
That momentum did not hold. Through September, shares drifted lower as investors weighed persistent weakness in the Greater China segment, a competitive and price-sensitive plant-based beverage category, and concerns about the company’s leverage and cash generation. The October third-quarter release, with its lower profit guidance, then crystallized those worries and pushed the stock to its recent lows.
Several factors are likely to shape Oatly’s stock in the months ahead. First is the conclusion of the strategic review of the Greater China business, which management expects to complete in 2026; any restructuring, divestiture, or repositioning there could materially affect the company’s footprint and financials. Second is whether the company can hold its revised full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance of $16–20 million amid persistent logistics and fuel-cost inflation.
Investors are also likely to monitor cash flow and leverage, given reported total debt of about $549 million and available liquidity of roughly $95 million. On the growth side, the rollout of Oatly’s new fiber innovation platform to North America, expected in early 2027, and continued momentum in the Europe & International segment will be important. Finally, broader competitive dynamics in the plant-based milk category and macroeconomic conditions in key markets remain central risks to watch. From what I see, I’m watching this closely for signs of stabilization.
