JEDI ETF: Can It Reclaim the $40 Level?

JEDI ETF: Can It Reclaim the $40 Level?

Key Takeaways

  • The central question is whether JEDI can climb back toward the $40 psychological level, roughly one-third above its recent price near $30.
  • The ETF has already traded as high as $42.99 over the past 52 weeks, showing the $40 zone is within its demonstrated range rather than uncharted territory.
  • Bullish support comes from surging global defense and drone spending and heavy exposure to fast-moving names such as RKLB and PLTR.
  • Key risks include a concentrated, non-diversified portfolio and elevated volatility tied to speculative small- and mid-cap holdings.
  • Investors should watch how the fund behaves near its prior highs, as those levels now represent meaningful supply.

Why the $40 Level Stands Out

The Defiance Drone and Modern Warfare ETF (JEDI) focuses on military drones, AI-driven warfare, space systems, and defense technology. It reached a 52-week high near $42.99, so the $40 mark feels like a realistic benchmark rather than an arbitrary target. From recent levels around $30, that would represent a solid recovery. In my view, reclaiming $40 would suggest the fund has regained its footing after pulling back from those earlier peaks.

A Concentrated Thematic Bet

JEDI launched on September 25, 2025, and tracks the BITA Drone & Modern Warfare Select Index before fees and expenses. It carries an expense ratio of 0.69% and is classified as non-diversified. The fund deliberately avoids traditional defense contractors and instead targets companies that generate at least half their revenue from drones, unmanned systems, AI-driven warfare, military cybersecurity, and space capabilities.

More than 90% of assets sit in North American industrials and technology holdings. Top positions have included RDW, UMAC, RKLB, PLTR, RTX, AVAV, LUNR, AI, and ACHR. I also checked this using Tickeron’s AI Screener to see how the stock compares to others in the industry. This focus on smaller, higher-beta names gives the ETF its distinctive volatility profile.

Sector Tailwinds Supporting a Recovery

Rising global defense budgets, increased drone production, and spending on space-based security continue to support many of the underlying holdings. Because a handful of positions can move the fund meaningfully, sustained strength in drone, space, and defense-technology equities could help push JEDI back toward its prior highs. Fund flows since inception have reflected solid investor interest in the theme, and the index methodology’s tilt toward smaller, actively traded companies can amplify gains when sentiment improves.

Technical Levels Worth Monitoring

The $40 zone carries weight for both psychological and technical reasons. It sits just below the 52-week high near $42.99, creating a potential area where earlier buyers might look to reduce positions. On the downside, the recent trading range between the low-to-mid $20s and $30 has provided recurring support, while the $40–$43 band now acts as resistance. A sustained move above $40 would likely need consistent buying rather than a short-lived spike.

Risks That Could Limit Upside

The fund’s non-diversified structure and concentration in speculative growth names remain the main concerns. A pullback in just a few key holdings can weigh on the entire ETF. Many components are sensitive to interest-rate expectations and shifts in risk appetite. A move toward risk-off sentiment, slower defense spending, or weak results from a top holding could stall progress toward $40. The relatively small asset base and 0.69% expense ratio also add to the risk considerations for this thematic product.

Using AI Daily Buy/Sell Signals in My Process

In my trading routine, I often turn to Tickeron’s AI Daily Buy/Sell Signals to stay on top of moves like this. It provides AI-driven buy, sell, or hold recommendations based on technical patterns, which helps me quickly assess opportunities in volatile sectors like defense tech.

Final Assessment

Whether JEDI can reach $40 depends on sector momentum, defense-spending trends, and the performance of its largest holdings. The level is realistic because the fund has already traded above it, and price targets on underlying names have generally pointed higher. At the same time, the concentrated, high-beta structure means the path is unlikely to be smooth. I’m watching this closely near the prior highs, as those zones now represent meaningful supply. The target remains achievable in a favorable environment but is far from guaranteed given the fund’s volatility profile.
