Toyota Motor plans to build a $1.29 billion battery plant in North Carolina. The plant will be in Liberty, near Greensboro, N.C., and is expected to come online in 2025.
The plant will have four production lines. Each of these will have the capacity to deliver lithium-ion batteries adequate for 200,000 vehicles.
The plant is estimated to create 1,750 new jobs, with an expected average yearly salary of $62,000.
Toyota aims to expand the operation to at least six production lines for a total of up to 1.2 million vehicles per year. The company is committed to using 100% renewable energy at the facility.
The $1.29 billion investment made by Toyota and Toyota Tsusho is funded partly from a total investment of about $3.4 billion dedicated toward auto batteries in the U.S. through 2030.
