High freight costs and geopolitical uncertainties are apparently weighing on China’s appetite for U.S. imports. U.S. shale output reached record levels this year, catapulting the nation into the position of the world’s largest oil producer. But with China – the world’s biggest oil consumer – seemingly reducing demand, U.S. crude could potentially lose out on a major revenue stream (atleast in the near-term). The U.S. tariff war with China was largely centred around the trade gap narrative.

Automatic Data Processing (Nasdaq: ADP) is a human resource outsourcing firm, offering clients payroll, benefits administration, compliance and other services. There could be some good news, however, as the stock hit two levels this week that could act as support and help propel it higher. In August, the stock dipped down to the $128 level before rallying up above the $150 level in early October.
The daily chart on Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) is an interesting one for a number of reasons. The second item of interest is the regression line for the last nine months and the stock’s relationship with that regression line. The middle blue line is the regression line.

It is a random round number that doesn’t really represent a pertinent time period. When it comes to weekly charts I like to look at 13-week, 52-week, and 104-week moving averages. There has only been one other instance in the last five years where both of these oscillators were in overbought territory at the same time and that was in October 2016. If the stock should drop below the 104-week moving average, it would be a very bad sign for it.
The stock price is growing much faster than the company’s earnings or sales. If we look at the daily chart, you can see that the stock price has been trending higher over the last nine months. The last time we saw this same scenario was in mid-October and the stock jumped from below $37 to over $41.50. If you look back over the last two years, the stock has gained 57.3% while the S&P is up 17.5% over this same time period.
Cleveland.com reported that US Rep. Warren Davidson (R) of Ohio announced legislation at the recent Blockchain Solutions Conference in Cleveland – an event that is part of the city’s Blockland rebranding initiative – that “would prevent [crypto] from being classified as securities but would also allow the federal government to regulate initial coin offerings more effectively.” Cryptocurrency regulation became a hot-button issue in the wake of 2017’s crypto boom, as the government was forced to confront the potential issues raised by digital currency’s burgeoning popularity.Clarity has been hard to come by – regulations around the world have been piecemeal, though some governing bodies have taken clear stances (without being able to pass clear legislation). Individual stances from organizations have not added up to a unified, multi-body view.
Another industry has officially adopted blockchain to improve their operations.Reuters reported that “oil majors and trading firms can start finalizing crude oil deals on a live blockchain-based platform for the first time,” using its technology to mitigate longstanding issues. Blockchain is adept at improving efficiency and transparency across use cases – its immutable ledger makes fraud almost impossible, and it has the capacity to take labor-intensive, paper-based processes and move them into the digital world.
According to crypto news site CCN, Ethereum has lost 92 percent of its value since its January 13th zenith – a drop almost as extreme as its climb. While some investors have understandably cooled on crypto in the wake of such wild price swings, key figures have cautioned that a price-centric focus paints an incomplete picture of Ethereum’s health. In fact, Joseph Lubin, Ethereum co-creator and founder of decentralized-software studio ConsenSys, believes that in many ways, things have never been better. Lubin views blockchain as “a movement,” not a market – and a growing one at that.
The world’s biggest companies are looking to capitalize on artificial intelligence’s rising ubiquity in their own businesses.Qualcomm, the telecommunications and semiconductor equipment giant, announced a new, $100 million AI-focused investment fund in November that doubles down on that commitment.
Some crypto enthusiasts were elated, viewing the announcement as one of the first true adoptions of cryptocurrency by the government in the United States, where lawmakers have gravitated to its underlying blockchain technology rather than virtual currencies themselves. State treasurer Josh Mandel led the initiative, part of a rebranding effort to paint Ohio as a hub for tech and blockchain in the Midwest.“We’re doing this to provide Ohioans more options and ease in paying their taxes and also to project Ohio’s leadership in embracing blockchain technology.” Any business in Ohio can register at OhioCrypto.com, the state government’s official website for the effort, to pay any of “23 taxes eligible for payment” with bitcoin.
