Replacing standard delivery cars with drones will be a unique as UPS can use Matternet’s M2 quadcopter drone that can carry medical samples of up to 5 pounds as far as 12.5 miles. UPS further revealed that the program will begin with numerous planned daily revenue flights at the WakeMed Raleigh campus.Using a UPS secure drone container, WakeMed employees can now load medical specimens like blood samples and send them to a nearby WakeMed facility much faster than they did with delivery vehicles. Matternet, who already enjoys an established reputation, has completed more than 3,000 flights for healthcare systems in Switzerland.
The financial services unit of the American multinational conglomerate General Electric, GE Capital, has finally agreed to pay $49 million to a pair of Florida hedge funds to settle claims it was complicit in a convicted fraudster, Thomas Petters’ $3.65 billion Ponzi scheme. A bankruptcy trustee working for those two Florida hedge funds lost $650 million when the Ponzi scheme was running full force in 2008.The trustee accused GE of co-conspiring, on grounds that the company remained silent in 2000 when its employees found out that Petters was operating the scheme. The accusation is further aggravated by the fact the GE Capital was a lender to businesses controlled by Petters starting in 1998.

In 2018, U.S. companies brought home $664.9 billion of their overseas profits, marking a sharp increase from 2017’s $155.1 billion.President Donald Trump’s one-time tax cut – from 35% to 15.5% - on repatriated offshore cash seems to have pushed corporations towards the dramatic increase in the amount of profits they brought back to the U.S.  Still, the amount repatriated was shy of Trump’s expectations of $4 trillion. Share buybacks, which hit a record $1.1 trillion last year, accounted for the majority of spending out of the cash brought back, as suggested by a Federal Reserve study last year.

Google is launching a global advisory council to consider ethical issues around artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. The council, which is expected to publish a report at the end of this year, includes technology experts, digital ethicists, and people with public policy backgrounds. The group is expected to provide recommendations for Google, and other companies and researchers, working in areas such as facial recognition software. "We want to have the most informed and thoughtful conversations we can," Walker said on stage at the MIT Technology Review event in San Francisco."
Shipments of American goods to China fell to the lowest level in more than eight years as the two countries still find themselves locked in a trade war. The Commerce Department said the gap between the goods and services that the United States sells and what it buys from other countries dropped by 14.6%  to $51.1 billion in January from $59.9 billion in December.U.S. goods exports to China dropped 22.3% to $7.1 billion, lowest since September 2010; Chinese imports dropped 9.6% to $41.6 billion.

The home goods retailer's revenue, however, failed to match up to expectations. The company’s SEC filing revealed that it raked in quarterly adjusted earnings of 96 cents a share, which surpassed analysts’ estimates of 76 cents.But revenue of $433 million fell short of analysts' expectations of $438 million.
